Ingredients
- 2 oz
- Elijah Craig Small Batch Bourbon (Elijah Craig 12-Year)
- 1⁄2 oz
- Ramazzotti
- 1 tsp
- simple syrup
- 2 dash
- Bittermens Xocolatl Mole Bitters
- 1
- orange twist as garnish
Stir it Up
- Stir all ingredients over ice
- Strain into an Old-Fashioned glass over one large ice cube
- Express orange twist over drink, gently rub around the rim, and drop in
Background & History
An Old-Fashioned riff, further inspired by Death & Co's Elder Fashion, where the orange-flavored Ramazzotti amaro stands in for the sugar, and spicy, chocolaty bitters added instead of the classic Angostura.
Notes & Review
A nice riff on the Old-Fashioned, and simple to make, with only a few ingredients, so the enjoyment:toil ratio is pretty good with this one. A bit more going on than a traditional Old-Fashioned, with notes of orange, a hint of cacao, and a bitter but nice taste from the amaro.
Could be interesting to sub in a rye whiskey instead of bourbon, to spice this further.
