This cocktail starts sweet on the palate and then ends quite bitter. The grapefruit zest and simple syrup trick you for a moment but then the gin, Galliano (which is bitter itself with a strong anise flavor), Angostura and grapefruit zest (again) come through with a bitter punch. Surprising how much grapefruit flavor you can get with just the zest. In the end though, this cocktail doesn't come together all that well.
