Created at and named after the Hotel Nacional de Cuba in Havana, Cuba. Also known as the Hotel Nacional Special. The recipe has changed a bit over the years. The rum used can be white, aged, or a split base of both. Some recipes up the apricot liqueur and some skip the simple syrup.
Nice, smooth, and tropical, this is a good cocktail to start the night (or afternoon). Daiquiri vibes but with lots of apricot on the nose and a bit fruitier. Probably not the most memorable of cocktails, but still tasty and easy to drink. We used Flor de Caña white rum (and Giffard apricot liqueur), but could see many rum/rhum combinations working well here.
