This recipe variation is pretty boozy, with two full ounces of tequila; other recipes call for half that much. The Aperol lends sweetness as well as bitterness and the Cherry Heering brings cherry-sweet and some spice. The mezcal brings a smoky nose which adds complexity. I'm not a huge fan of Cherry Heering so I might take it down to 1/2 oz next time. I probably wouldn't waste El Tesoro Añejo on this and opt for a cheaper reposado instead (which other recipes call for as well).
